The recreational and sports units of the Municipality of Porto Alegre, which are managed by the Municipal Department of Sport, Leisure and Youth (Smelj), offer water aerobics and swimming courses, as well as appointment times and free swimming. Activities are available at the Primeiro de Maio Community Center (Ceprima), the Vila Floresta Community Center (Cecoflor), the Vila Ingá Sports Center (Cevi) and the Vila Restinga Community Center (Cecores).
“To be able to take advantage of the activities in the space it is necessary to go to the secretariat of one of the centers and register to participate in the aquagym or swimming courses”, explains Smelj secretary Débora Garcia. To use the swimming pools you must have a card, which is also issued directly at the accommodation units, together with an identity document with identity document or CPF, proof of residence and a 3×4 photo. Minors must be accompanied by a guardian or bring with them the authorization that Smelj provides signed by the guardian.

Each center has its own swimming, water aerobics and free bathing timetables, which must be consulted directly at each center. Water treatment
The treatment process of the water used in the swimming pools is carried out through a partnership between the municipality and the Brazilian Chemical Association of Rio Grande do Sul (ABQ-RS). “With this agreement the organization makes its chemical professionals available to guarantee the quality of the water”, comments the president of the association, the chemist Renato Evangelista. This work is carried out in each space with different dosages of products in each pool, depending on the volume and speed of water recirculation.
Cecopam
After the last storm that occurred in Porto Alegre, the swimming pool at the Parque Madepinho Community Center (Cecopam), in Cavalhada, is undergoing maintenance on the swimming pool motors, which directly affect the treatment of the water.
