If it raises suspicions about the origin of the injuries; child transferred to intensive care in Passo Fundo
In Erechim, a mother was arrested red-handed on Thursday night (1) after her son was admitted to Santa Terezinha Hospital with serious injuries. The accident triggered a police investigation, raising doubts about the origin of the child’s injuries, who was later transferred to the São Vicente de Paulo hospital, in Passo Fundo, due to the seriousness of his condition.
The boy’s parents, originally from Haiti, sought medical attention due to severe injuries on their son’s body, including signs of recent abuse. The initial claim of a fall was cast into doubt following revelations that the child had previously been treated for similar injuries.
The situation worsened when the hospital professionals decided to call the Military Brigade and the child’s father temporarily left the scene. Upon returning and being questioned by police, he distanced himself from his responsibilities of caring for the child, citing another family. The mother, in turn, suggested that the nanny might be behind the injuries, a statement contradicted by the nanny’s report and the observations of a neighbor, who indicated that he often heard crying and screaming coming from the family’s home.
Taken to the Emergency Police Station (DPPA), the mother was caught red-handed and taken to Erechim Regional Prison, while the father was released after giving explanations.
The child, now in intensive care, faces a critical medical condition, requiring surgery to treat multiple injuries, including a fractured collarbone and head trauma. The case has been registered as a qualified attempted murder, a shocking development which awaits further investigation to clarify the tragic circumstances surrounding the family.
