The former defender is one of the greatest idols in the history of the Italian national team
Former Italian player Giacomo Losi, former Roma captain and one of the capital club’s greatest idols, has died at the age of 88.
Affectionately nicknamed “Giacomino” and “Core della Roma” by fans, Losi is remembered for his loyalty, discipline and love for the Giallorossi team.
Born in Soncino, in the province of Cremona, the former defender was Roma’s most capped player for around four decades, before being overtaken by Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi.
“You have always loved us, we have always loved you. Goodbye captain, you will always be in our hearts”, lamented Roma on social media.
Losi played for Roma from 1954 to 1969, captaining him in 299 of the 386 matches in which he played. With the team the former athlete won two Italian Cups and also played in the 1962 edition of the World Cup with the blue shirt. .
