“I’ve already thought about it, for sure. I’m thinking about it more than is healthy,” he confessed in an interview with The Independent (via Variety).
Mulligan also commented on the absence of Greta Gerwig among those nominated. Despite the critical and box office success of Barbie, none of the eight nominations received by the film is for Best Director. “I’m devastated by Gretabecause I don’t know what else a director can do to be nominated,” he told The Times. “You make a critically acclaimed film that’s also an incredible global success, and yet it’s not nominated?”
The actress also spoke about Saltburndirected by Emerald Fennell, which did not receive any nominations at all. “I went to the premiere of Saltburn in Los Angeles and sat next to Inand there were 1,700 people having the best possible experience, so, I don’t know,” he recalled.
“I think the main takeaway is how incredibly it was received. Initially, people didn’t know how to react and then suddenly it took over the internet and now it’s become this huge phenomenon where you can buy candles called ‘Jacob Elordi’s Bathwater.’ “
