Once: Autumn grows up in the Amazon rainforest with Hope, a cute female jaguar she adopted. But when she turned six, a family tragedy forced Autumn and her father to move back to New York. Eight years pass and Autumn, now a teenager, has never forgotten her jaguar friend. When she learns that Hope is in mortal danger, Autumn decides to return to the jungle to save her!
which they will fall in love with : After Mia and the White Lion and The Wolf and the Lion, French filmmaker Gilles de Maistre is back with the latest Jaguar. An adventure film in which a little girl crosses the American continent to find her friend Hope, a jaguar who is being hunted by animal traders.
An environmental fable that allows young people to discover the fauna and flora of the Amazon forest, its inhabitants and the problems they face.
In keeping with the director’s previous films, the feature film orchestrates an encounter between a little girl and a real jaguar. Two animals named Gem and Hope were also used for the purpose of the feature film.
The last jaguar
Gilles de Maistre explains in the press kit: “A year before shooting, we started insemination with Airam, who plays Autumn as a child. He was able to play with Hope and Gem until he was four months old – then the jaguars got bigger and it became too risky for Airam, so we stopped. We took all the first pictures. In the meantime, Lum was also involved with the jaguars, playing with them, but without us filming. It lasted for a year. After that, filming the whole part of the film where autumn returns. in the jungle and finds that his jaguar has started.
A character inspired by Mowgli
The scenes with the baby jaguar melt the audience and also remind us of The Jungle Book. And that’s okay, because screenwriters Prune and Gilles de Meister were inspired by Mowgli to write the character of Autumn (i.e. Lumi Pollack on screen). A little girl grew up in the jungle with a baby jaguar and left the forest to join civilization. What if after 8 years of living among men, Mowgli returned to see Bagheera and Baloo?
Things can scare them : The film is suitable for ages 8 and up, as some themes are difficult for younger viewers. Autumn is a rebellious pre-teen who doesn’t shy away from talking to her teacher, lies and runs away to the other side of the world.

The last jaguar
Pretty early on, we learn that Autumn’s mother has passed away, and so the little girl and her father have moved to New York.
The film talks about wildlife trade and deforestation. The animal dealers have guns and they take Autumn and Hope in one session. A scene that may disturb young people.
What they will keep deep: Through this film (and the director’s previous works), the audience learns about the direct impact of deforestation on the animals and people of the Amazon. Gilles de Maistre explains that this is his way of campaigning.
Activist cinema
“This is the new activist cinema. I have always made films that condemn injustice, inequality, oppression, crime. But for about ten years, together with my wife Prun, who is also the screenwriter of our films, we wanted to be for the campaign, not against it. Because we realized that messaging was much more effective that way. Protecting animals, forests, water, the planet… these are all topics I address, but with poetry. I want not to condemn, but to listen. For this, I begin to move from the greatest difficulty to the simplest.“
In The last jaguarYoung Autumn realizes that her friend is in danger and she can’t keep him. So he wants to take her to the biological corridor to be safe. Therefore, the film discusses the decisions made by associations against animal trafficking networks.
The movie also shows that you should never give up on your ideals and try everything for what you think is right.
