The rumors were already strong and now the director of the new Fantastic Four (this time within the MCU) has just provided another clue that star Pedro Pascal will be the next Reed Richards, Mr. Fantastic.
It’s worth noting that there’s no official confirmation yet. But director Matt Shakman pretty much did it. He used his official Instagram account to repost the news putting the actor in the role.
The conversation had already strengthened in the last few hours after the Hollywood Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) updated the page on Pascal choosing the star as the protagonist of the next Fantastic Four.
The association backed down, but the enthusiasm had already been created. Hours later, Matt Shakman does it and the world already considers Pedro Pascal the new Marvel superhero. And woe to Disney if they don’t climb the Chilean!
Recall that Matt Shakman (WandaVision) has already said that filming of the film will begin in 2024.
Josh Friedman (Avatar: The Way of Water) is responsible for the screenplay, the main cast of which has not yet been announced.
The premiere is scheduled for May 2, 2025.
The information comes from Omelette.
One star for the main film of the new phase
By confirming the name of Pedro Pascal, Disney/Marvel begins the formation of the so-called Phase 6 of the publisher in theaters on the right foot.
In an exclusive interview with the magazine Weekly entertainmentin February last year, the head of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), Kevin Feige, declared that the Fantastic Four would be one of the pillars of this new period.
Pascal is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood today. And it has become a favorite of the geek crowd. He, for example, plays the protagonist Din Djarin, from The Mandalorion, and is also Joel, from The Last of Us.
The Chilean-American actor also played Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones and Javier Peña in the Netflix series Narcos.
In other words, it’s a big draw in itself for any movie. Even more so in a leading role: in this case, Reed Richards is one of the smartest men in the Marvel universe and one of the main leaders of the publisher.
MCU pressed
There is great anticipation for Phase 6, which should arrive in 2025. Even more so in a context in which the legacy is being questioned.
Phase 5 is, so far, the worst in the entire history of the MCU, which began with Iron Man (2008). The glut of series on Disney+ and the uninspired stories that made it to the cinema have led to a decline in box office – in addition to constant criticism from experts.
It is true that there are still a few years left until the end of this phase and Marvel can recover, especially if the next two Avengers work.
Now, the studio needs to improve its decisions. And the choice of Pedro Pascal would be spot on.
Since Fantastic Four is scheduled for May 2025, if the calendar doesn’t change, we could have the presence of the so-called First Family in both the Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.
OR We continue to follow the developments of this story. And I’m rooting for Pedro Pascal’s official confirmation in the MCU.
