The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, responsible for awarding the Oscars, announced on Thursday (8) that, starting in 2026, the competition will have another category: Best Casting Director. According to information from Deadline, the award will consider the selection and casting of a group of actors for a production, but the exact criteria have not been disclosed.
Casting directors play an essential role in filmmaking, and as the Academy evolves, we are proud to add them to the disciplines we recognize and celebrate. The debate on the inclusion of the category in the traditional event is ancient, it dates back to the 90s.
