The attacker must play at least 45 minutes to have the possibility of automatic renewal. Otherwise, continuity in 2026 is uncertain
This Saturday (25/10) San Paolo will be able to decide the fate of striker Emiliano Rigoni, 32 years old, during the duel against Bahia, at Morumbis, for the 30th matchday of the Brazilian Championship. The striker has a contract valid until the end of 2025, with a clause that provides for automatic renewal for another season if he plays 12 games with at least 45 minutes of action.
So far Rigoni has played only three matches in these conditions, with nine rounds remaining in the Brasileirão. If he fails to meet the requirement in this weekend’s clash, he will no longer have time to reach the objective and the automatic renewal will not be triggered.
This does not mean that the club cannot offer him a renewal at its discretion at the end of the year. But Rigoni’s stay at San Paolo is very unlikely.
Rigoni’s performance of the year
In seven games played, Rigoni has not yet scored a goal, but provided an assist for Tapia against Fortaleza. In the same match, he received a red card for tackling Deyverson. He started three times, including the classic against Santos and the two duels against LDU, in the quarter-finals of the Libertadores.
In fact, in the clashes against the Ecuadorian team, the attacker was used as a right winger, but he put in a decent performance, despite hitting the post in his best opportunity. The move, together with Luciano’s wasted opportunities, could have changed San Paolo’s course in the competition.
The lack of effectiveness in the proposals is nothing new. After all, Rigoni arrived at San Paolo on the last day of the transfer window, coming from León-MEX, a club where he scored just one goal in 18 games.

The relationship with the council and Crespo
Wanted by the management, Rigoni arrived at San Paolo with the approval of coach Hernán Crespo, with whom he had already worked in 2021. However, when asked about his influence on the purchase, the coach downplayed his role.
“Nothing. It was the board that did everything, the whole market was on the board. We accept, I’ve already said it, I’m a Formula 1 driver. I try to drive as hard and fast as possible,” Crespo said.
Despite the close bond with Crespo, Rigoni’s continuity will depend exclusively on the playing minutes and the strategy of the technical staff in the next matches. The duel against Bahia, therefore, could be decisive for the future of the attacker at Morumbi.
