What is it about?

Like anyone who wants to find love after a long relationship, Dave tried an online dating app. Contact with Liz and Kari was encouraging. Both single mothers and loving mothers, they helped him, each in their own way, come out of his shell. But what should have been an opportunity for a hard-working and devoted father to reconnect one night quickly turns into a twisted love triangle that puts Dave and those close to him in danger.

A meeting that goes wrong

A few days after the excellent documentary series about Rael and the couple accused of inventing his kidnapping, this is a brand new true crime that Netflix offers to its subscribers. Titled Lover, Stalker, Killer: Ex-Extreme, this 1h30 film tells the story of a fascinating criminal case told from the point of view of the protagonists and investigators.

From the very first minutes, we are informed about the originality of this story: a woman is accused of murder… and the body was never found. Advice for starting this documentary: learn as little as possible about the case (we won’t go into details in this article). You will be even more surprised by the twist that happens halfway through the movie. Because in this story, the victim can hide a lot.

Director Sam Hobkinson (City of Fear: New York vs. The Mafia) was able to rely on archival footage to illustrate his true crime, but he also used the method of reconstruction to stage a love triangle that took place in this small town of Omaha. And it was successful. The viewer explores their past (the romance took place between 2012 and 2016) and feels the paranoia that Dave has had to live with over the years. Terrifying.

Lover, Stalker, Killer: Extreme Ex shows what people are really capable of in a world where technology is becoming an easy weapon for those who want to harass online. Watch on Netflix.
