Fourteen episodes, two decades, a love story… This is the program for the series One Day available on Netflix. Adapted from the worldwide bestseller by David Nicholls, this successful fiction tells the story of Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew, who speak for the first time on July 15, 1988, on the night of their high school graduation.
The next morning everyone goes their separate ways. But where will they be on this ordinary day next year, and the year after that, and all the years after that? Each episode allows us to find Dexter and Emma on the same date year after year and see how they grow, change, grow closer and further apart, go through moments of joy and sorrow.
This new series created by Nicole Taylor comes thirteen years after Lon Scherfig’s film adaptation with Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess, and the One Day series version brings a new dimension and a fresh look to this iconic novel.
Who is the new Emma and Dex in a day?
The designer chose to rely on two faces unknown to the general public to embody this new iteration of the couple Emma and Dex. You may have seen them in other works, but one day there should be a series that will give them more exposure.
Ambika Mod is Emma Morley
British actress, comedian and writer Ambika Modi is the daughter of Indian immigrants who developed a passion for theater and sketch comedy at university. He participates in several festivals as a group and also performs improvisational comedy at the London Free Association.
Ambika Mode made her first foray into the television world with an episode of Trying and two episodes of I Hate Suzie Too. But it was the medical drama This Is Going To Hurt, in which she played Shruti Acharya, opposite Ben Whishaw, that she became a bit of a household name.
Leo Woodall as Dexter Mayhew
Coming from a family of actors, Leo Woodall dabbled in sports before turning to acting at the age of nineteen after watching the TV series Peaky Blinders. After graduating from school, the young man began working on television, participating in series and short films.
Then he took his first steps on the big screen with the film Cherry by the Russo brothers and appeared in the TV series Vampire Academy. Leo Woodall lands his first starring role in Season 2 of The White Lotus, playing Jack, a tourist who comes to stay with his uncle Quentin (Tom Hollander).
He was next seen in the action series Citadel on Prime Video. In addition, Leo Woodall was selected from 28,000 candidates for the film Nomad, which was shot in more than twenty countries from 2019 to 2023. We don’t know yet when this project will be released.
