The partnership with Guaraná Antarctica is the largest in the history of Cruzmaltino, but it began with the defeat in São Januário
Vasco lost against Botafogo 1-0, this Saturday (10/2), in the debut of the Copa Rio Feminina. The match remained tied until the 40th minute of the second half, when Jordana, from the visiting team, declared Vasco’s defeat in the center of São Januário.
Despite the negative score, the Copa Rio match, a competition that acts as a thermometer for the formation of teams at the beginning of the season, had a positive factor for Vasco. After all, the women’s team began to have the largest sponsorship in its history.
Vasco has the largest sponsorship of Feminino na Colina
Guaraná Antarctica is therefore the new company that brings money to Gigante da Colina, through a tax incentive law. The announcement of support came out in December 2023, when it was agreed that Ambev (owner of Guaraná Antarctiva) would allocate R$1 million to women’s football, while Tim, a telephone company, would be responsible for supporting youth categories with R$3 million.
In order to count on Ambev’s support, Vasco needed to certify that it was in good financial condition. Guaraná Antarctica has already been a sponsor of the Brazilian women’s team and of the Brasileirão Feminino, in 2021 and 2022. And, again in the sporting field, it also provides assistance to the NGO Meninas em Campo, which trains new players and which, since 2023, has 52 launched on the professional market.
The Copa Rio Feminina is the thermometer of the season
The Copa Rio Feminina was created in 2023 by the RJ State Federation. Thus, the big four of the city face each other in turn and return. So, in addition to Vasco, Botafogo, Flamengo and Fluminense are in the running. Whoever scores the most points after six games wins the title.
The debut of the Rio Women’s Cup 2024 took place on 3/2 with Flamengo’s 3-0 victory over Fluminense, with goals from Darlene, Cristiane and Naná, at the Luso-Brasileiro stadium, on Ilha do Governador.
