“Concentrate of wit and humor”: rated 3.8 out of 5, this is Quentin Dupuy’s best film

After several music videos and the short film Nonfilm, the electro artist Mr. Oizo became Quentin Dupierre again when he moved on to the feature film Steak, which was released in June 2007 in our cinemas. Seventeen years later, his twelfth opus has just hit our theaters (and the thirteenth is in the works), making him one of the most prolific directors ever.

It is visible from February 7, daaaaal! is even his seventh feature film released in just six years. And AlloCiné’s top viewer ratings are right there in the lot. Because while waiting to see how far his film about the famous artist (played by several actors, including Edward Baer, Jonathan Cohen and Pio Marmay) will go, this is about Yannick.

Which, with its 463,851 admissions, is also its biggest success in France (ahead of Incredible But True Then Steak), which probably explains this. As well as the fact that it tells a story, certainly absurd, but more down-to-earth (and therefore accessible to the general public) than usual.

It’s about an audience member (the titular Yannick, played by Raphael Couinard) who, not too thrilled with a very bad performance he’s attending, decides to stop the show and take matters into his own hands. Pio Marmay, Blanche Garden, Sébastien Chassant and Agnes Hurstel also participate in this closed session for Two Césars, which questions the complex relationship between artists and society.

With an average rating of 3.8 out of 5 from 5,128 ratings, this is the best Quentin Dupieux movie on AlloCiné. And out of 517 reviews on the site, 67 give it 5 stars, while 222 range from 4 to 4.5.

Short, insightful, delightful, Yannick oozes humor and neuroticism

“Don’t miss this gem, a true cinematic proposition, a truly original idea… a film that will clean your head instead of dirty it”excited Lawrence L.Whenever Hugo G.packed by “Simply exceptional actors and dialogue” states that it is “Best Movie” of its author.

zombieIn turn, he came to the casting and stayed for what comes with it: “Dupuy + Quenard + Gardin + Marmay were already four good reasons to see this film, which exceeds all my expectations. Concentration of intelligence, humor, good dialogue, but also emotion, full of ideas, sometimes serious, but wrapped in impudence and the madness of Dupuy. Short, sharp , enjoyable, Yannick oozes humor and neurons.

It’s surprising, it’s funny, it’s good, it’s beautiful, it’s suspicious

Playfulness and intelligence, two frequent qualities of Quentin Dupierre, even if the latter was more disruptive to Yannick’s release. Which still remains a pure film of its author, as emphasized Thibaut Geyer : “It’s surprising, it’s funny, it’s good, it’s wonderful, it’s suspicious.”

And it makes a beautiful conclusion about this Yannick, who is often described as an alien by Internet users, and some highlight his conversation and make us think. Much more absurd (and that’s normal considering this topic), daaaaaal! Will it reach the same heights on AlloCiné and at the box office? Answer in the coming weeks.
