News on Prime: This movie earned Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games) her only Oscar

Make an unconventional romantic comedy. It was directed by David O. Russell’s wish when he filmed The Happiness Therapy, an adaptation of Matthew Quick’s book, in the early 2010s. This cinematic alien follows the story of two lost souls who find each other.

Pat (Cooper) lost everything: his house, his job and his wife. He is forced to move in with his parents. Quickly, he meets Tiffany (Lawrence), a beautiful young woman who has had a busy career. An unexpected connection begins between them and together they will try to control their lives.

Bradley Cooper (A Very Bad Trip) and Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games) offer two roles that go against the grain. When she starred in this film, the actress was only 22 years old and is best known for her role as Katniss Everdeen in the dystopian saga.

Don’t be fooled by the summary of Happiness Therapy. This film is primarily a edgy, even cynical, comedy that is sure to make you smile despite its themes of bipolarity, depression, and even nymphomania.

A prize for the daughter of fire

David O. Russell’s film is screened at festivals before its release. It has won awards at Toronto, BAFTAs, Golden Globes… and Oscars. That year, Happiness Therapy was nominated in 9 categories. But only Jennifer Lawrence will be awarded the prize. Thanks to his performance, which was noticed by critics, the Hunger Games star won his first golden statue. The actor will be overcome with such emotions that he will go down the stairs before accepting the prize on the stage:

Jennifer Lawrence hasn’t done it again since, despite her stellar performances in Joy, Don’t Look Up and American Bluff. The latter, directed by David O. Russell, also marking a reunion between the two actors the following year.

Happiness Therapy is available on Prime from February 10th.
