This Sunday, February 11, the 2024 Super Bowl took place, with the Kansas City Chiefs getting the better of the San Francisco 49ers 25-22, in an exciting duel decided in overtime. But as the final game of the NFL season was underway, the biggest and most expensive night on American TV featured a slew of commercials, including a large collection of movie trailers.
The first trailer of Deadpool and Wolverine gave a brief glimpse of Hugh Jackman finally donning the yellow and black costume that made Wolverine famous. We also saw the first trailers for the film version of Evil and for a sequence of Twist call Twister.
This year the commercials were low-tech: we saw a little artificial intelligence, a little cybersecurity, and no national cryptocurrency ads. Apple Music sponsored the halftime show featuring Usher, and an ad for the service featured Tim Cook sending possibly grumpy text messages to Ludacris. However, the Vision Pro did not appear.
In addition to traditional over-the-air and cable broadcasts, the game was also broadcast live in the United States on Paramount Plus, YouTube TV, Fubo, and Hulu Plus Live TV, which for some had the usual quality issues.
