Marvel Studios has officially revealed the main cast of the reboot of Fantastic Four. The group brought the first superheroes created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby to Marvel in November 1961.
The new Fantastic Four brings:
Along with the casting announcement, Disney changed the release dates of Fantastic Fournow scheduled for July 25, 2025, and Lightningfor May 2, 2025. These are two of the four major Marvel films scheduled for 2025. The others are: Captain America: Brave New World (February) e Lama (November).
New Fantastic Four
Plot details for the new film are still scarce. In the comics, the Fantastic Four are astronauts transformed into superheroes after being exposed to cosmic rays in space.
Upon impact, Reed Richards gains the ability to elongate his body; Sue Storm can turn invisible and create powerful force fields; Johnny Storm can turn his body into fire and fly; and Ben Grimm transforms into a rock-like creature with super strength.
The new Fantastic Four is directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision AND game of Thrones), with a screenplay by Josh Friedman (Avatar 2), Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer – known for their work on Bert and Arnie’s Guide to Friendship (2013).
Pascal’s casting for the role of Reed Richards was leaked in November. But Marvel tried to keep who would play Marvel’s First Family a secret. Filming is expected to begin in the American summer (between June and September).
Stellar cast
Pedro Pascal, one of the most sought after actors in Hollywood, will probably record the second season of The last of us HBO before taking on Richards’ role. Joseph Quinn stood out in the role of Eddie Munson in the fourth season of Stranger thingsand Ebon Moss-Bachrach won an Emmy for her performance in The bear.
Vanessa Kirby, known for her role in The crown and nominated for an Oscar for Pieces of a woman (2020), had already expressed the desire to play the Invisible Woman. “It would be an honor to play Sue Storm,” Vanessa said.
Marvel has not yet announced who the villains the quartet will face in the film will be. But Victor von Doom is typically the main antagonist of the Fantastic Four. With the finalization of the main cast, Marvel Studios establishes the new anchor for the MCU.
Arrival at the MCU
Until now, the Fantastic Four were not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film rights belonged to 20th Century Fox, which produced three films featuring the characters. Disney acquired 21st Century Fox in 2019, bringing the characters to Marvel Studios.
The first version of Reed Richards in the MCU appeared Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022). In the film, directed by Sam Raimi, John Krasinski (The office) played a variant of Mr. Fantastic in a special appearance.
