The actress who plays Kate Sharma in the second season of the Netflix series has revealed a surprising inspiration for the most intimate moments of the shoot.
‘The Bridgertons’ are well known for their ability to turn up the temperature under the covers. And now your star Simone Ashley, who plays Kate Sharma in season 2 of the Netflix series, has revealed a curious inspiration behind the scenes romance production. Your answer? Sensual sex between snails, apparently.
In an intervention in the podcast The EnvelopeAshley detailed some of the lessons she learned in sexual intimacy classes prior to filming, which included observing the way snails, erm, practice their most intimate encounters. Really. “It was the most embarrassing and the most vulnerable at the same time, but it was a safe and intimate space,” she said. “We explored the movement of different animals to represent different rhythms or different sexualities and find out how sensual certain movements could be.”
“For example, we see how snails mate, and when they do, they produce a kind of plasma that binds them together. So, if it was a really sexy, slow scene, we’d be like, oh, it’s like snail sex. And that plasma is like falling into a pool of honey,” the actress explained.
And that’s not the only animal that Ashley and the show’s cast members studied extensively. They also observed dogs and chimpanzees to understand their mating rituals and apply them to history.. “It’s very fast-paced and a different kind of style. So this kind of scene we’re going to make it really fun and quirky and just goofy and, well, let’s think about these kinds of animals,” she explained. “So we’d focus on other things and then treat it like a dance and make it very character-driven.”
The actress added: “I think it gave us all practice and experience of how to be professional on a set like that.. And I definitely found that within ‘The Bridgertons’.”
By the way, Ashley was previously part of the cast of the Netflix series ‘Sex Education’, where she also had intimacy classes that ended up helping her prepare for ‘The Bridgertons’. What if she would return to the popular series for a fourth season? The answer was a resounding no. “I’m a Bridgerton Girl Now”said.
