Jennifer Lopez on This Is Me… Now film: “There was a bigger message”

In an interview, the singer revealed that the film This Is Me… Now: A Love Story was not in the initial plans for the new album project

This Friday (16), Jennifer Lopez released his ninth studio album, This Is Me… Nowwhich premieres accompanied by a feature film, This Is Me… Now: A Love Story. In a press conference, which was attended by Rolling Stone Brazilthe artist revealed that, initially, the film was not in her plans, but she felt that “there was a bigger message” to be counted.

“There wasn’t a moment where I thought, ‘Oh, I’m going to do this at some point in my life.’ This was something that was really inspired by the music and a moment in life that I wanted to capture, that felt very magical and even surreal, sometimes, that was happening”clarified the artist.

“I went into the studio and made this album. And when I finished it, I thought to myself, ‘There’s more to this story. There’s something bigger I want to do with this song. I just don’t want to do the normal thing, release a video and do this and do that. , and publicize and blah, blah, blah. It seemed like there was a bigger message”continued Lopez.

According to the artist, her next step was to call the director Dave Meyerswith whom he has collaborated for more than two decades, to try to think of a project original enough for the album, which was neither a film nor a music video:

“We started putting it on paper, trying to describe it to people. They didn’t really get it. So we had to create a script for them to understand. We did that. And then we went from there.”he explained.

In the conversation, Lopez even talked about how close This Is Me… Now: A Love Story is close to your reality: “There isn’t a project I’ve been involved in, with music, films or anything, that I haven’t invested a lot of my life and personal experience in”he said.

“[O desenvolvimento deste projeto] It felt like such an important moment in my life, kind of a turning point, and I was at a point in my life where, as a person and as an artist, I could really look at all the things I was good at and the things I was good at. I felt and knew about myself and put them all into this project, somehow”added Lopez.

“So, yes, there are parts that feel very autobiographical, and there are parts that are kind of meta, not exactly in a way, not exactly what happened, but also the feeling that this is what happened. (…) That mix of being personal, but also of being fantastic, surreal, magical is what I believe makes it really moving, fun and, at the same time, super real”concluded the artist.

In This Is Me… Now: A Love Story, Jennifer Lopez crosses different cinematographic genres to tell a very personal story, about his journey in search of love, since breaking up with the actor, screenwriter and director Ben Affleck, in the early 2000s, until the couple’s reconciliation in recent years.
