Rich in Portuguese, Porto hosts Estrela Amadora

Porto is coming off three consecutive victories and welcomes Estrela Amadora to continue dreaming of the title; behind the scenes they shake the club internally

This Saturday (17), Porto hosts Estrela Amadora, after the 22nd round of the Portuguese championship. The match will take place at the Estádio do Dragão, at 5.30pm (Brasilia time) and will mark the possibility for the tripeiros to continue dreaming of the national title. The team is coming off three consecutive victories in the league, but is seven points behind leaders Sporting and Benfica.

Against Estrela Amadora, Porto will therefore try to reduce Lisbon’s opponents to four. The team is led on the pitch by the Brazilian Evanílson, one of the highlights of the season and a great goal hope. He and Francisco Conceição were the most important names of the team in this second part of the competition. The team has 45 points and a stumble at home could mean the difference between fighting for the title or settling for a place in the European tournaments.

But in recent weeks the club has been in turmoil over its situation behind the scenes. The choice of the new president will take place shortly and will make news to the same extent (or even more) than the events on the field. Pinto da Costa, Porto’s president for 40 years, is seeking his 16th election, which he guarantees will be his last, but faces competition from André Villas-Boas. The club’s former manager, who also played in France and England, is a contender to try to dethrone the eternal leader.
