Did Moliere really die on stage? Laurent Lafitte talks about his new film, Between Reality and Legend

“There are many assumptions about Moliere’s life”, Laurent Lafitte tells us when we talk to him about his new feature film, which is in our cinemas from February 14th. And for good reason: there are several documents about him that allow us to determine who really was the author of the most famous plays in the history of the theater.

Hence the title of Olivier Pi’s feature film: Imaginary Moliere. An account of the last play performed by the author and actor on the evening of death, “Imaginary Sick”, and the fact that the film mixes reality and legend. Especially sticking to the conventional wisdom that he died on stage, while he went from life to death at home, as Laurent Lafitte confirms to us on our microphone.

After Bernard Tapp and Lucien Guitry (in a biopic dedicated to Sarah Bernhardt), the actor plays another person who existed. And he goes back with us on different aspects of the project: both the filming of this story in (fake) order, and the way to make it softer, or even his relationship with the author who is a member of it. Comedy – French.
