Thousands of sardines appear on a Philippine island just days before an earthquake hits the country

Local residents believe the phenomenon was a ‘bad omen’

Thousand of sardines reached the coast of an island in Philippines before the country was hit by a major label earthquake last Tuesday, 9. Local residents interviewed by the British newspaper The DailyMirror They believe that the appearance of fish in large numbers was a “bad omen”.

In a video circulating on social media it is possible to see thousands of fish on the coast of an island. According to the newspaper, the phenomenon began on January 7, after local residents found piles of small fish on a beach, which covered up to four kilometers of the coast.

While some saw it as a “blessing from above,” others feared it was a sign of something ominous to come. The sardines appeared along the coast of Tinoto village in Sarangani province on the Philippine island of Mindanao. Residents like Mark Baya expressed concern that this could be an early warning of something, although they admitted that it was perhaps unfounded.

Shortly after the event, a magnitude 6.7 earthquake was recorded along the coast of the Philippines, as reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
