Daniel Alves, Ronaldinho and more: remember the other arrested players

False documents, drug trafficking, sexual crimes and murders have been some of the reasons investigated that have already landed athletes in prison

Daniele Alves had the trial for sexual assault on a 23 year old girl in Spain held last week. There were three listening sessions and presentation of the versions by the prosecution and the defense. The player is still awaiting the sentence, which has no deadline to be defined. In the meantime he remains in preventive detention, as he has been since last year.

A maximum sentence of 12 years The Prosecutor’s Office requests imprisonment. The Public Prosecutor is asking for nine years. The trend is that, if convicted, the player will have a maximum of six years in prison. The reason is the payment by the defense to the Court, already at the beginning of the trial, of compensation of 150 thousand euros (about 800 thousand reals) to the young woman. The prosecution, however, disputes the possible reduction of the sentence. The deputy also points to ten years of supervised release after serving his prison sentence and that he is prohibited from approaching or communicating with the victim for the same period. Recently, an alleged escape plan to Brazilif Daniel Alves achieved freedom.

Other players have already been subject to investigations and arrests. These include cases of false documentation, drug trafficking, other sexual crimes and even murder. One of the best-known cases, however, is the conviction of Robinho for rape in Italy, without being arrested. The former player fled the country and he cannot be extradited from Brazil.
