Twitch announces price increase for the first time

Twitch announced on Tuesday (20) that it will update, for the first time since its launch, the price of subscriptions to its subchannels (subscription or registration) on the web. According to Game Streaming, the first markets to feel the impact of the changes will be the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Turkey.

We have not increased prices on subchannels since their inception, and many markets have seen reduced prices in 2021. We are updating prices in several countries this year to help streamers’ revenue keep pace with rising costs and reflect local currency fluctuations.

Existing subscriptions will automatically renew at the new price – no action required. Existing subscribers will be notified via email one month before the price change takes effect.

light on declaration.

The change comes shortly after the platform laid off 500 employees, or 35% of the company’s workforce. The decision came after Amazon, which owns streaming, found that the business remains unprofitable even after years on the market. Get it here!

The increase also comes after the company promoted changes in the payment method for streamers with a Prime subscription: according to Engadget, from June onwards they will earn a fixed amount for each Prime subscription, which should reduce its value, according to the portal. There has also been an expansion of the Plus Programme, which will come into force in May.

We’re increasing subscription prices to generate more revenue for our streamers and help make streaming a more sustainable business for them. Streamers will continue to receive the same share of net revenue on subscriptions and gift subscriptions, so this price increase allows you to receive more per subscription. The increased revenue per subscription Twitch receives helps us maintain and build the long-term future of streaming.
