A month after launching on Netflix, Griselda continues to make good progress. The drama series, which centers on the life of a Colombian drug lord – who is introduced as Pablo Escobar’s mentor – traces his early years in Miami and the way he developed his successful business through murders and revenge.

Before Sofia, there was Catherine

The new creation from the producers of Narcos, starring the beautiful Sofia Vergara, has long held the top spot in the weekly top ten. Proof that subscribers love biographies, especially when it comes to serious criminals. But before the Modern Family star transformed into Griselda, another famous actress tried her hand at the exercise.

In 2017, Catherine Zeta-Jones played Griselda in the (TV) film The Godmother of Cocaine (translated into French as Queen of the Cartels), a synopsis of which is here:

Griselda Blanco, who grew up in the poverty of the slums of Medellin, Colombia, flew to the United States in the early 1970s. He quickly became a pioneer of cocaine trafficking in Miami, leading an extensive network of drug dealers whose business brought in $80,000,000 each. month. Behind the scenes, this thrice-married mother of four (and responsible for the deaths of two of her wives), Pablo Escobar’s mentor, is as admired as feared.

TF1+ exclusive

The feature film was televised in France only on affiliate channel TF1’s Movies series and was not available for streaming until the recent arrival of the TF1+ platform. The popularity of the Griselda series on Netflix will surely convince the French group to release a version with Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Thanks to TF1+ being free, viewers can discover this new iteration of drug addict life… even if the reviews are far from rave. The involvement of Guillermo Navarro, a director who already works on Narcos, will not help the TV movie in its surprising and innovative vision of the character, who is said to have ordered the death of at least 200 people.

It also ignores the fact that the actor does not look like the character he plays, the latter, according to several criticisms visible on the AlloCiné file, does not have the structure necessary to portray this great figure of banditry.
