Google stopped imagining Gemini people due to diversity and historical representation issues
Due to the inaccuracy in generating images of people in relation to diversity, the Google has decided to discontinue Gemini’s generative AI functionality. After the launch of chatbotsSeveral cases have emerged online of figures being created with historical errors, such as a painting based on 1943 that contains individuals of different ethnicities as if they were German soldiers.

While working to improve the tool, Gigante de Buscas announced the hiatus on social media. “We are already working to resolve recent issues with Gemini’s imaging functionality. While we do so, we will pause imaging people and relaunch an improved version soon,” Google reported.
The pause in imaging came after the apology
The decision came 24 hours after Big Tech publicly apologized on X (previously Twitter). “We are aware that Gemini has provided inaccuracies in some representations of historical images,” Google’s statement said. “We’re working to immediately improve this type of imaging. Gemini’s AI imaging generates a wide range of people. And that’s generally a good thing because people all over the world use it, but here it’s doing it wrong.”

Some Gemini users in the United States have requested that images of historical figures be generated, such as the country’s founding fathers (also known as the “Founding Fathers”), but have ended up receiving artwork featuring people of different ethnicities than the actual ones from a historical point of view.
This type of situation has sparked a lot of discussion on social media, including the fact that Google’s artificial intelligence does not accept commands to generate images based on ethnic groups. When asked about this, one of his responses is that “focusing on individuals based on their race can be harmful and inaccurate,” as we can see in the post below.

If a person in the United States tries to use the feature, they will receive the following message from the chatbot: “We are working to improve Gemini’s ability to generate images of people. We hope this feature returns soon and will let you know in release updates when it happens .” about to happen.”
Google hasn’t said how long it will take to improve the people-image feature in Gemini.
