Four years after the very solid 11th installment, the progenitors of the indestructible Mortal Kombat saga return with Mortal Kombat 1 in September 2023. The title is designed as a soft reboot that will unite fans of the franchise and attract new players.
Because it’s a fact: the Mortal Kombat license is super strong, with over 80 million copies of the game sold since its inception. It is the most profitable franchise in the Versus fighting game scene, ahead of Smash Bros, Tekken and Street Fighter.
No Mortal Kombat deserves the name without inviting its traditional guests to the arena. In the past we’ve been treated to Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Alien, Predator, Leatherface with a Texas Chainsaw…
For this Mortal Kombat 1, in addition to Lore characters (wizard Quan Chi, Ninja Ermac…), it is Homelander from the series The Boys, Peacemaker and Omni-Man (inspired by the comics and series. The animated TV show Invincible) who are present at the party.
Peacemaker will therefore join the Kombatants line this February 28th as part of an early access period for Kombat Pack owners, and then will be available to everyone from March 6th.
He certainly has the qualities of John Cena, who plays the character in the series of the same name from the DC stable. The actor also voices a character in the game, taking the time to bust out a few dance moves.
The trailer also offers a first look at gameplay for Janet Cage, a new Kameo fighter available as DLC, a version of Johnny Cage from an alternate reality who can help you fight. Janet Cage will be available as part of the Kombat Pack or as a standalone purchase in March 2024.
