Concluding a long saga, Netflix announced that it has begun globally removing users’ access to paying for the discounted plan available through Apple’s iTunes. The movement to remove the payment method via iTunes has been underway since 2018, when tests were discovered by the TechCrunch website. The idea was to make Netflix subscribers no longer use iTunes to pay the monthly fee, as an analysis showed that Apple kept 30% of the amount paid during the first year (2015) and 15 % in subsequent years.

At the time, Netflix also confirmed the change and promised that, if successful, the model would be expanded to more regions of the world, as is happening now.
