Rebranded version of ZTE Libero Flip for the global market, the Nubia Flip 5G seeks to popularize foldables, bringing a competent form factor and low price
Second had announced in the teasers for MWC 2024THE Nubia launched this Monday (26th) on Nubia Flip 5G, the brand’s first foldable mobile phone. Even though it is essentially so a rebranded version of ZTE Libero Fliprecently made available in Japan, the novelty attracts attention for dethroning the Motorola Razr 40 as the cheapest device in its category, with a very competent technical sheet.

Being a renamed version of Free Flipwe have no surprises in the technical specifications: the Nubia Flip is equipped with a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor, 6 GB of memory RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. The set is very similar to the Razr40, except for the slightly more limited RAM, which is one of the possible cuts responsible for the aggressive price. In practice the launch should offer satisfactory performance for everyday use.

The external screen follows that of rivals such as the Tecno Phantom V Flip they did, opting for a style reminiscent of a smartwatch. In fact, its specifications are very similar to watch displays. like the new OnePlus Watch 2, featuring a 1.43-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels. Considering the compact size, the pixel density is high, so the high sharpness should provide a good user experience.
There are no advanced features and use of full apps as seen in Galaxy Z Flip 5, Find N3 Flip AND Motorola Razr 40 Ultra, but the proposal here is to make a cell phone more accessible in any case. The internal screen also partially compensates for these limitations by presenting a 6.9-inch AMOLED display, with Full HD+ resolution of 2790 x 1188 pixels, 120 Hz refresh rate and 2,160 Hz PWM dimming, ensuring greater visual comfort when the brightness is low. The only weak point is the structure, which appears more fragile.
In terms of cameras, the Nubia Flip has the basics, with a 50MP main sensor, supported by a 2MP secondary lens for depth calculation, placed in the large circular module around the external screen. Selfies are entrusted to a 16 MP lens, housed in a hole centered at the top of the internal screen, although it is also possible to use the rear cameras, as expected from a flip phone. The hinge can also be opened 90° to simulate the grip of a digital camera and facilitate captures.
The battery is another strong point of the device, being one of the largest among foldable flips with 4,310 mAh of capacity, accompanied by 33 W fast charging. Furthermore, we have 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFCfingerprint reader integrated into the side power button, stereo sound with DTS:X Ultra spatial audio and Android 13, working with the MyOS 13 interface of ZTE. Unfortunately, there are no promises of updates, although Android 15 is already in the testing phase.
Price and availability
The Nubia Flip 5G will sell for a suggested price of US$599 (~R$2,990), making it the cheapest foldable – at least at launch – of the Razr 40. There are no precise availability dates yet, but the brand mentions that it will bring news globally in March, so we may have more information by then.
In announcements revealing the products brought to MWC 2024, the company also mentions a “global expansion” and explicitly talks about Latin America, although Brazil is not necessarily in the package. That said, considering that Red Magic, a gaming subsidiary of Nubia and ZTE, is present in the Brazilian marketthere’s a chance we’ll see this or another of the new features brought here.
