Military police officers disappear after shipwreck in Rio das Mortes, MT

Two military police officers have disappeared in the middle of a inspection action in Rio das Mortesin Nova Xavantina (MT), on the afternoon of this Friday 1. Sergeant Helidiony Barbosa and soldier Jaderson Nunes Teixeira were shipwrecked and, to date, have not been located, reported the State Secretariat of Public Security (SESP) of Mato Grosso.

According to the agency, the military carried out the operation in the Novo Santo Antônio region, 960 km from Cuiabá. They were accompanied by the director of the Araguaia State Park and employee of the Secretariat of State for the Environment (SEMA), identified as Johann Dávilas Barros Cavalcante.

After the sinking, Cavalcante managed to swim to the river bank and was rescued. Barbosa and Teixeira have not yet been found, SESP stressed. Teams from the Fire Brigade and the Integrated Air Operations Center (Ciopaer) are carrying out searches in the region.

According to the company, the searches are based on the work of specialized divers and teams with drug-sniffing dogs to locate police officers. So far only the bulletproof vest of one of the police officers has been found.
