It was one of the most anticipated movies of the year and it’s finally in theaters for fans. Dune: Part II follows the first part, released in 2021, and continues the SF epic imagined by Frank Herbert and brought to the screen by Denis Villeneuve.
If the first Dune film set the stage for his universe, the second feature aims to be more spectacular and dark, and much more clearly outlines the fate of its anti-hero Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet).
This second part ends with a very open ending, which I will explain here, and the adaptation is complete DuneThe first novel dune cycle By Frank Herbert. So is there a sequel planned?
Will there be a third Dune movie?
The third part has not yet been officially confirmed by Warner Bros. studio. And yet the teams are currently working on the next feature film that fans have been eagerly waiting for, which will thus represent the Dune trilogy.
Indeed, Denis Villeneuve defined time South Korea’s Dune Press Conference: Part Two That the script for the third movie is almost finished:
“It’s being written now. The script is almost done, but it’s not quite finished. It’s going to take some time… We’re dreaming of doing a third film… That would make sense to me.”

In turn, the composer of the first two films, Hans Zimmer, said variety That he was already working on the music for the third part, which Dennis talked about on the second day of shooting Dune: Part II.
Dune: Part II started production based on the first part’s box office success, and the same will be true for the third feature film. But seeing as Dune: Part II is already off to a great start to 2024 at the US box office, we’re telling ourselves that an official Dune 3 announcement is only a matter of time.
What will the third Dune movie be about?

This book, which acts as a shorter “epilogue”. DuneThe action takes place about ten years after the events of Dune. Paul has become the new emperor and embodies the dreamlike prophetic figure of the Bene Gesserit and the Fremen who fought alongside him.
Despite the stronger powers that allow him to defeat his enemies, Paul is haunted by visions of his own death and the question of his descendants: he wants children from Chan (played by Zendaya in the films), but his own wife (out of interest) Irulan (played by Florence Pugh in the second part) does everything to prevent him and conspires against him.
Additionally, a very important character made a brief appearance in this third film, Dune: Part II. And it’s Alia Atreides, Paul’s future sister, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, the big surprise of the second film!
When will the third Dune movie come out?
If the release of Dune: Part II was delayed by several months due to a double strike by writers and actors, forcing fans to be patient, a potential third feature film will probably demand even more from them. ‘Waiting.
Indeed, Denis Villeneuve explained that he needed a change of scenery and to take his time before diving into the third installment, given that he didn’t have a break between Dune and Dune: Part Two.
“I don’t know exactly when I will return to Arak”he said “I might take a detour first just to get out of the sun. For my sanity I might do something in between, but my dream would be to go one last time on this planet I love.”.
The Canadian film director confirmed it The Hollywood Reporter That Dune 3 was not his next project, but that others were working on it in the meantime:
“I have four projects on the table right now. One is a secret project that I can’t talk about right now, but it should see the light of day pretty quickly. So it would be a good idea to do something. Projects before we get to Duna Messiah and Cleopatra. All of those projects are still It’s being written, so we’ll see where they go, but I have no control over that.”
With this information in mind, we shouldn’t have to wait long for Dune 3. Some American bloggers have shared a rumor about a 2027 theatrical release. But we have to wait for official information from Warner Bros and Denis Villeneuve.
