On Wednesday the 6th the Supreme Court resumes its judgment on the decriminalization of possession of marijuana for personal use; the senators intend to vote the PEC in the opposite direction
In a new chapter of the clash between the Legislature and the Judiciary, the Senate prepares a reaction to the trial on the decriminalization of the possession of small quantities of drugs, such as marijuana, for personal use, which will be resumed at the Federal Supreme Court Chamber (STF) on Wednesday 6th. From September, in the Constitution and Justice Committee of the Chamber (CCJ), senators can vote on a proposed amendment to the Constitution (PEC) which criminalizes the possession of any quantity of drugs.
In the STF, the complaint of non-compliance with a fundamental precept (ADPF) 442 calls for abortion to be permitted in all circumstances up to the 12th week of pregnancy, on the same model adopted in Germany. According to the President of the Court, Luís Roberto Barroso, the topic “still needs greater debate in society” and, therefore, The trial has no date when it will take place.
Since taking over the leadership of the Supreme Court in September, the minister has given a speech based on defusing tensions and pacifying institutional relations. “I intend to dialogue with Congress in a respectful and institutional way, as it should be. I would honestly say that there is no crisis. What exists, as in any democracy, is the need for institutional relations based on dialogue”, he declared, after having assumed the presidency of the Court last year.
