This is a strict Netflix rule. Despite great success and critical acclaim, The Sun Brothers, written by one of the creators of American Horror Story, was canceled after just one season. However, in the United States, as well as in France, the program fell in the platform ratings for several weeks.
Why such a decision?
This decision confirms that the success was not strong enough in the rest of the world to justify a continuation. The cancellation is part of a cost-cutting policy by Netflix, which has recently halted development on many of its projects.
When it comes to actors, it’s definitely a tough pill to swallow. This is the first time Michelle Yeoh – the winner of the Oscars in 2023, everything everywhere at once – has spoken on her official Instagram account, expressing her disappointment and confusion:
“My heart breaks…and I’m trying to understand why…However, I’m proud of the family that was created at Les Frères Sun and what we presented to the world. Let’s raise our heads.”

“Thanks for all the messages, tweets…”
Same sentiment from one of the main actors, Justin Chien, who also shared the message his personal account For fans: “It’s going to take some time to wrap this up, but I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love and support of this series..”
He follows: “Thanks for all the messages, tweets, edits, interactions…it fills me with joy to know that so many of you have found yourself in this series. Your love was worth the collective work, the sacrifice and the heartache.”
Sun Brothers is available on Netflix.
