The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) was present at the 13th World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference, last week, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The conference brought together delegations from 166 countries to discuss international trade, with a focus on agriculture.
The MAPA delegation, led by the Undersecretary for Trade and International Relations, Giulio Ramosand integrated by Guilherme Antônio da Costa JúniorChief of Staff of the SCRI, Raffaele Mafraagricultural worker, e Celso Teixeira, foreign trade analyst, has participated in meetings with countries such as Australia, the United States, Canada and the European Union, as well as discussion groups with the Cairns Group (countries that export agricultural products), the countries of Latin America and the Inter-American Union Institute of Agricultural Cooperation (IICA). The goal was to discuss the “Agreement on Agriculture” and seek solutions that protect national interests.
During the Conference, Brazil strengthened ties with strategic partners and avoided adopting rules that would harm domestic agriculture in the future, such as allowing other countries to export subsidized products or sudden tariff increases without justification.
“Our participation in the WTO strengthens the country’s commitment to finding joint solutions to global challenges, seeking to promote greater access to affordable food, foster sustainable production and ensure equity in global trade“, underlined the deputy secretary.
The Brazilian government’s participation in the WTO was led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieiraand made up of employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC), the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Agrarian Development ( MDA).
