Yesterday at the Xbox Partner Conference, publisher Bandai Namco unveiled a new narrative action-adventure game called Unknown 9: Awakening. Although this is not exactly a discovery.
The title, developed by Reflector Entertainment, a Quebec studio acquired by the publisher, was already announced at the Gamescom show in 2020. But since then there has been no news.
The pandemic that hit that year and the extremely difficult post-Covid period to manage – the effects of which we are still measuring – led to losses for development studios.
Yennefer from The Witcher to the rescue
Unknown 9: Awakening is a third-person narrative action-adventure game that follows Haroona, a mysterious character with a complicated past, born with the ability to travel backwards, a mysterious dimension parallel to our own.
In his quest for powerful secret knowledge, he must learn to master his unique connection to the Reverse (Fold, in the original language), which allows him to channel his power into our world.
But such power attracts attention, and he soon becomes the target of the Ascendants, an offshoot of the Leap Year Society, a secret organization that wants to use the setback to change the course of human history.
What does it look like ? for that!
As Haruna, the player embarks on a journey around the world trying to right the wrongs of his past. To complete the mission, he must slip into the shadows to surprise his enemies and enter the minds of his opponents to take control, dodge bullets, create shields to protect himself, generate energy beams and creative combat combos to his playing style.
A pleasant surprise of this title is the presence of actress Anna Chalotra, Yennefer from The Witcher, who here lends her features and voice (at least in the original version) to the heroine of this video game.
Unknown 9: Awakening It should be an entry point to a larger narrative world available in a variety of mediums, consisting of interconnected adventures told in the form of comics, podcasts, and novels in particular, allowing the experience to be extended.
The game is slated for summer 2024 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on Steam.
