When an imaginary friend becomes very real: it is in the comedy Ricky Stanick, director of Dumb and Dumber!

It’s a raunchy and trashy comedy not to be missed on Prime Video, and it’s brought to us by a master of the field: Peter Farrell. We are especially indebted to him for his brother, Bobby, Mary at Any Price, Dumb and Dumber, Fous d’Irène and L’Amour Extra-Large.

After taking a small detour into biographical drama in 2018 with Green Book, which won 3 Oscars, including Best Picture, the American writer-director returns to crazy comedy with a crazy new film that should appeal to fans and fans of the genre.

What is Ricky Stanick talking about?

Available on Prime Video, Ricky Stanick tells the story of how three childhood friends, Dean, James and Wes, created the fictional character and best friend, Ricky Stanick. Over the years, this name allowed the three friends to get out of all difficult situations, but above all, to be an excuse for anything and everything.

Until the day when Ricky Stanick’s excuse starts to raise questions among those around him, because no one saw it coming! To avoid exposing their deception, Dean, JT and Wes hire “Rock Hard” Rod, a celebrity impersonator with a very dubious sense of humor, to pose as their fictional friend. Obviously, the plan doesn’t go as planned.

Ricky Stanick, a friend who wishes you luck

As Ricky Stanick’s poster attests, this crazy new comedy is aimed at an informed audience, as it’s “restricted to children under 17.” And for good reason, the absurd humor, silly tone, and sexual references that Peter Farrell, David Ochino, Jason Dekker, and Geoffrey Bushell come up with work well in this film.

And it’s the fake “Ricky Stanick” character played by John Cena that catalyzes this bias, usually for Pharrell. The ex-wrestler-turned-actor always has more surprises in comics, and he lets himself in with this role.

Expect completely insane John Cena impersonations that hijack songs by adding sexual references and crazy disguises (especially Britney Spears!). The actor truly carries the film on his shoulders and lights up every scene with his charismatic presence and impressive delivery.

But he can count on solid actors who respond well to his lines – most often funny, sometimes borderline – such as Zac Efron, Jermaine Fowler, Andrew Santino and Lex Scott Davis, but also William H. Macy (Fargo, Shameless)!

If you’re a fan of Pharrell-style, wacky and schoolboy humor and buddy comedy, then Ricky Stanick guarantees you an entertaining and hassle-free evening. But if this genre isn’t your cup of tea, then move on!
