Pierce Brosnan was one of the actors who played James Bond on film, in franchise films 007. Faced with a time when a new actor to play the iconic character has yet to be cast, Brosnan gave his take on who should land the role: Cillian Murphy, the lead star of the Oppenheimer film. “Cillian would do a magnificent job as James Bond in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,” Brosnan said of his Irish compatriot, at an event in Los Angeles last Thursday evening, answering the BBC on who he would be his choice for the next 007.

After playing James Bond, it was Daniel Craig’s turn to take on the role. Craig is cinema’s most recent Bond, playing the spy in five films between 2006 and 2021. The first of this sequence, in 2006, was 007 – Royal Casino. The film that marked the actor’s farewell to the role was 007 – No time to diepremiered in 2021.
Rumors point to some names as the next James Bond
Since the place to be the new 007 in cinemas became vacant, many rumors about notable actors began to be published in the world press. Among the hypothesized names, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Regé-Jean Page and Henry Cavill have been spoken of. So far, however, nothing has been confirmed.
Cillian Murphy is experiencing a high point in his career, having last year starred in Oppenheimer, a critically acclaimed film that was in the running for the Oscar for best film. He is also considered one of the favorites to win the best actor statuette next Sunday.
When informed by Variety about Pierce Brosnan’s choice for him, Murphy commented that he doesn’t see himself playing 007, due to his age. “I’m a little old for this stuff. I would say my time for getting this role has passed.”
Cillian Murphy is currently 47 years old. Daniel Craig was 38 in his first role as 007 and 51 in his last. Pierce Brosnan was 42 years old when he played James Bond for the first time and said goodbye to the role at the age of 49.
