Success in France but failure internationally! Babylon, Damien Chazelle’s latest feature film, received mixed reviews. France certainly counted heavily on the January 2023 film’s journey, but it wasn’t enough to make this blockbuster profitable.
Enough for the director to worry about successfully financing his next project… In a podcast interview with TCM channel, Damien Chazelle talked about his current doubts.
“On a commercial level, Babylon did not work at all. He confides. You try not to let it affect your creativity, but on some level it can’t help but affect you. Maybe it’s okay? I am very divided. Who knows ? Maybe I won’t be able to make this movie. I do not know. We have to wait and see.“

and added: “I buried my head in the sand. I was busy writing. So I’ll really know if it’s changed when I finish this script and try to direct it. I feel great fear, but I have no illusions. I won’t be getting a budget the size of Babylon anytime soon, or at least not for this next film.”

No information has been released about this new film written and directed by Damien Chazelle. On the other hand, we know that Damien Chazelle is to work as a screenwriter on the Argyle director’s next film. Matthew Vaughn will actually produce the musical comedy written by Damien Chazelle, of Whiplash, La La Land, First Man and Babylon, through his company Marv Films.
