Kensington Palace has released the first official photo of Kate Middleton since she underwent abdominal surgery in January.

The photo, taken by Prince William this week, shows the Princess of Wales with the couple’s three children.

The image was posted with a message about Mother’s Day, which is celebrated this Sunday in the UK, and with thanks for all the support the princess has received.

Kate is unlikely to return to official public commitments before Easter

In the message, the princess said: “Thank you for your love and continued support over the past two months. I wish you all a Happy Mother’s Day.”

Kate spent 13 nights in a private hospital following the operation. During her hospitalization she received visits from Prince William and King Charles, who were also undergoing treatment at the same institution.

He is not expected to attend any official public engagements again until Easter.

The Palace released few details about the princess’ condition but said it was not related to cancer and would only provide updates when there was significant information to share.
