Palmeiras only reaches Sao Paulo in a possible Paulista semi-final due to a combination of results; understand

Verdão had the best season in the first phase of Paulista in search of the hat trick

The first phase of the Campeonato Paulista has finally ended and now the State is restricted to the eight classified for the final phase of the tournament, which will begin next weekend, with the duels between Palmeiras x Ponte Preta, São Paulo Novorizontino, Inter de Limeira x Red Bull Bragantino and Santos x Portuguesa.

Team with the best season in the group stage for the third consecutive year, Palmeiras hosts Ponte a Barueri trying to be among the four best in the State, something that has practically become an obligation for the club in the last ten years.

Palmeiras fans are already doing the calculations to find out who will participate in a possible Paulista semi-final, if they will pass through Ponte Preta and Lance! It summarizes in a simple way who Alviverde’s opponent could be.

The only chance of seeing a Choque-Rei in the state semi-final would be if San Paolo overcame Novorizontino on penalties, Red Bull Bragantino overcame Inter de Limeira in the 90th minute and Santos eliminated Portuguesa (in any case) .

In summary, should they progress to the semi-finals, Palmeiras will face:

– If Portuguesa beats Santos, they will be Verdão’s opponent.

– If Portuguesa falls and Limeira’s Inter advances, Palmeiras takes Inter.

– If Portuguesa falls, Inter de Limeira is eliminated in regulation time and San Paolo goes to penalties, we will have a Choque-Rei in the semi-final.

If Verdão reached the final, the big decision would not be left to the imposing Alviverde, if Santos got through the quarter-finals and semi-finals, winning in normal time, and Palmeiras got through both stages on penalties.
