Wes Anderson celebrates his first Oscar and explains his absence from the 2024 awards

The filmmaker won the Best Short Film statuette for The Incredible Story of Henry Sugar, a production available on Netflix

Nominated eight times for an Oscar, Wes Andersonfinally won his first statuette during the 96th edition of the most prestigious cinema award, which took place last Sunday night (10). In a statement released by Netflix, the filmmaker thanked him for the award for Best Short Film for The Amazing Story of Henry Sugar (2023) and explained his absence from the award.

“If I could, I would be there to say ‘thank you’ to: the family of Roald Dahlthe Netflix team, Benedict [Cumberbatch], Ralph [Fiennes]It is Ben Kingsley It is Dev [Patel] It is Richard [Ayode] It is Bob [Yeoman] It is Adam It is Jeremy [Dawson] It is John It is Jim It is Rich It is Jim It is Polly and the rest”began the filmmaker.

“And I would also say: if I hadn’t met [o ator] Owen Wilson in a hallway at the University of Texas between classes when I was 18, I certainly wouldn’t be receiving this award tonight. But unfortunately, Steve and I are in Germany, and we start filming our new movie early tomorrow, so I haven’t received the award yet and haven’t even had a chance to say anything about it.”completed Anderson.
