After generating controversy for allegedly ignoring the Best Picture nominees when announcing the victory of Oppenheimerin Christopher Nolanat the Oscars 2024, Al Pacino revealed what really happened at the awards.
During the ceremony, the star got straight to the point by revealing the name of the film that won the award’s main category: “Ten wonderful films were nominated, but only one will win Best Film. And I need to look in the envelope for this, and I will. And my eyes see Oppenheimer“announced Al Pacinowithout giving the opportunity to remember all the productions nominated in the category.
Now, the actor explained why he “ignored” the other films: “I just want to make it clear that it was not my intention to omit them, but rather the producers’ choice not to repeat them, as they were highlighted individually throughout the ceremony. I was honored to be part of the evening and chose to follow the form how they wanted this award to be given”declared in a statement [via Variety].

People just want to hear who won, and they’re ready for the event to end. At least, that’s what we thought, so (. ..) we did not give him a list of nominees to read.
