After seven seasons, “Greg News” is canceled by HBO

HBO’s longest-running production in Latin America has been cancelled. The company announced the end of the talk show Greg News, presented by the actor and comedian Gregório Duvivier. The program was in its seventh season and was broadcast both online and on the Max streaming platform.

The news of the cancellation was confirmed by Gregório Duvivier himself in a video published on his Instagram account. “No, he won’t start another one Greg News“said the comedian.

According to the presenter, the responsible producer has other priorities. “We were HBO’s longest-running program in Latin America. I think it’s surreal that it took seven seasons for it not to be renewed. I thought it would end in second or third!”, he said.

According to Duvivier the decision was made because Greg News it is no longer considered a national program (all pay TV channels must meet, by law, a quota of Brazilian attractions). In 2017 Porta dos Fundos (which produces the talk show) was sold to Viacom, currently Paramount Global. Therefore the program is considered a foreign production.

The comedian stressed, however, that the cancellation does not represent the end of his partnership with HBO or Warner Bros. Discovery, the conglomerate responsible for the premium channel and Max platform.
