On a $9 million budget, the film grossed $24 million at the North American box office and paid homage to 1940s noir films, particularly Billy Wilder’s Death Insurance, which the story directly inspired.

This is the first feature film of the screenwriter and producer Lawrence Kasdan who recently finished writing Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark. The latter will be followed by Friends First, Grand Canyon and Wyatt Earp. Note that La Fever au Corps gained its cast Kathleen TurnBAFTA nomination for Announcement of the Year in 1982.
