What wish would you make if you had the power to change the course of your life? This question, somewhat naïve, is the starting point of Irish Wish, a new romantic comedy directed by Lindsay Lohan for Netflix. The film tells the story of Maddie, an editor who is secretly in love with a writer she works with. Problem: The author falls under the spell of his best friend.
Maddie can say goodbye to her romantic dreams when she has to travel all the way to Ireland to be maid of honor at their wedding. When she meets a strange woman who asks her to make a wish, Maddy wants to take the bride’s place. She doesn’t know yet that another man will enter her life…
Irish Desire is not an original, loosely based on the story of my best friend’s wedding to Julia Roberts. Still, there’s a difference between Netflix productions and classics from the nineties. A romantic comedy with Julia Roberts still had the merits of a good movie. Not so here.
Irish desire Matches afternoon TV movies that play all the genre codes to the point of exhaustion. But there’s no doubt that many viewers will find what they came for.
The strength of the film lies in Lindsay Lohan, who once again proves her acting talent and ease in the comedic register. The flop-free actor — who signed a big three-film deal with Netflix — deserves better projects to sign a big comeback.
Irish desire Available on Netflix.
