Over the past six months, Nicolas Cage has expressed confusion about his role as Superman on The Flash, discussed his desire for television and the possibility of leaving the film business. In an interview with Deadline at the SXSW festival this week, he expressed indifference about returning to the comic book genre.
“Will I return to the comic book genre? I guess you should never say never. And I’ll probably always want to play something, but it’s not really in the back of my mind“, he said.
His film selections in recent years—Pig, A Talent in Solid Gold, Dream Scenario and Arcadian, which he promoted there—reflected this point.
- Nicolas Cage: This role did not bring him a dollar, but it brought him an Oscar!
The actor told Deadline in January that he planned to be more selective about his future projects: “I will be stricter and stricter with the films I make. I might do it once a year or every two years, I don’t know.“
But he doesn’t completely rule out a return to comics and superhero movies. In fact, the two films he would have enjoyed directing are sequels.
“If something comes along that has potential, a spark, that might be fun for people to watch again, like Flip-Face 2 or Ghost Rider, that’s a different conversation. But I mean, it’s not about finding completely new material and trying something different.“

One of the highlights of Spider-Man: The New Generation — and there were many — was his performance Nicolas Cage As Spider-Man Noir, one of the Spider-Man variants that helped young Miles Morales on his journey. Although Cage didn’t return for the sequel, Across the Spider-Verse, it looks like we’ll soon find him in the role…
This time in an interview with Collider, back at the SXSW festival, the actor, an absolute fan of the character, confirmed that he had discussions about the role.
“I can say we talked. It’s no secret that I love this character. I think the character offers a different mix. I can combine my favorite performances from the Golden Age, namely Robinson, Cagney, Bogart, with a character that I think is widely considered Stan Lee’s masterpiece. But nothing is final yet. It’s just talkHe laughed.

Unlike the more familiar and colorful Spider-Man, this iteration is a gritty detective who fights crime in a corrupt world, combining elements of the superhero genre with elements of classic noir fiction.
A live-action series on the subject was mentioned in late 2023 and would be in development for Prime Video for a long time, with Steve Lightfoot as showrunner. Nicolas Cage Will she finally make the jump to the small screen to reprise that beloved role? Stay tuned, up close…
