At 17, Pau Cubarsí is gaining more and more space in the Catalan team
The 2023/24 season is entering its final stretch and Barcelona is focused on the objectives of the current competitions in dispute. In the quarter-finals of the Champions League and second in La Liga, the club is aiming to win a title.
Known for revealing great players, such as Lionel Messi, Piqué, Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta and, most recently, Lamine Yamal, Barça now has a new player: Pau Cubarsí. At 17, the defender has played 13 games in 2024, including 10 as a starter.
In an interview with the Barcelona media, Cubarsí told which championships he wants to win this season and planned the duel against Paris Saint-Germain, in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
– There are two main challenges: trying to win the Spanish championship and the Champions League, as always, and not giving up the championship. We are Barça and we must fight until the end. I have no doubt that we will. PSG? We can not wait. After so many years without reaching the quarterfinals, we will give our all. Also, it’s a very good game for the viewer and very good for the players because you do your best. We want to give our best and be a semi-final team – he declared.
The defender is experiencing a particularly exciting moment, gaining more and more space in one of the biggest clubs in Europe, and proving that he does not feel the pressure of defending the colors of the Catalan club.
– It’s a real pride to wear the shirt of the club of my life. But when I enter the field I don’t think about my age. When you are a Barça player, you always have that extra pressure, because wearing that shield and that shirt is the most important thing in the world. We play under pressure, but I think this makes us better footballers. This is how we demonstrate it – she said.
Called up to the Spanish national team, Cubarsi will face Colombia and Brazil on 22 and 26 March respectively.
