The musical portrays the career of the late singer who transformed a generation
Actress Mel Lisboa will interpret Rita Lee in a new musical next April. Directed by Marcio Macena It is Deborah Duboisbeside Marco França and Marcio Guimarãesthe production has a script by Guilherme Samora. The musical hits the stage at Teatro Porto, in São Paulo, on April 26th. Honey already interpreted Rita previously, ten years ago, in the play “Rita Lee Lives Next Door”.
“The existence of Rita transformed a generation, opened artistic paths and in society and made a lot of people happy” says the actress Mel Lisboa.
When the actress took on the role of Rita Lee in 2014, she says she didn’t imagine how successful it would be, with months of packed shows in one of São Paulo’s main theaters and even the surprise of having her own Rita praising his performance. Honey not only received awards, but also solidified her position as one of the main actresses in Brazilian theater and for playing one of the country’s greatest artists.
“The life of Rita needs to be told and retold. His existence transformed an entire generation. And it continues to win younger and younger fans. Rita It’s not ‘just’ the biggest rocker. She composed, sang and popularized sex from a female perspective at a time when it was unimaginable. She dared to say what she wanted and became the artist most censored by the military dictatorship. At the time, she was arrested pregnant. She turned things around and conquered a legion of ‘black sheep’. She became the woman who sold the most records in the country and the great MPB poet”, explains Lisbon.
The screenwriter Guilherme Samora was inspired by the book “Rita Lee – An Autobiography”, where the singer opened up many details about her personal life and career. The musical seeks to explore in depth who was Rita Lee as a composer, multi-instrumentalist, presenter, actress, writer and human rights activist until she became one of the greatest artists in our country.
