Ronnie Lessa’s defense drops the case after the prosecution’s approval

The request was accepted after the hearing with the minister’s assistant judge Alexandre de Moraes

Ronnie Lessa’s lawyers abandoned the defense after the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Lewandowskideclares this Tuesday 19th that the His plea agreement was approved by the Federal Supreme Court (STF). The former military police officer is arrested for the murder of Marielle Franco and Anderson Gomes.

“Due to legal ideology, our office does not act on behalf of whistleblowers. Not acting on behalf of informants is a question of principle, pre-lawsuit, and has nothing to do with the interest in solving a given crime or not,” lawyers Bruno Castro and Fernando Santana said in a statement released from CNN Brazil.

The lawyers also said in the memo that they always made it clear to Lessa that they would not pursue the case if he was interested in the plea.

“Perhaps only due to the fact that we were not called by him to participate in the signed complaint process. In this scenario, we will resign from the mandate in all twelve cases in which we acted for him, that is, from today we will no longer be Ronnie Lessa’s lawyers”, they add in the note.

Declaration approved

According to the minister, the plea agreement was approved after the hearing with the deputy judge of the minister Alexandre de Moraes, on Monday the 18th. Lewandowski said that he was not aware of the content of the plea agreement, which is confidential, but that, at the hearing, Lessa confirmed “all the terms of the award-winning collaboration”.

“They lead us to believe that we will soon find a solution to the murder of councilor Marielle Franco,” the minister said.

According to the minister, the trial continues under judicial secrecy, at the hands of Alexandre and Moraes, at the STF.

“It is important to say that the police work involved the participation of the federal and state public prosecutors,” he said.

The murder of Marielle Franco turned six years old on March 14, without it having been fully clarified. Although those identified as the perpetrator of the shooting and the driver who drove it that night of March 17, 2018 in Rio de Janeiro have been arrested, it still remains unclear who ordered Marielle’s killing.

Another prisoner for the crime, the former military policeman who participated in the execution Élcio Queiroz, driver of the car used by the criminals for the crime, closed a plea deal in 2023 and brought to light new elements that reveal the planning and the crime takes place. the murders.
