The frosty reception reserved for his sci-fi epic Rebel Moon hasn’t dampened Zack Snyder’s ambitions. Still for the Netflix platform, the filmmaker is currently developing an original historical series about the French Foreign Legion. In collaboration with his wife, Deborah Snyder, he produced this feature and left his place to his son, Eli Snyder, to direct the first episode.
The announcement was made at the Series Mania festival, which takes place in Lille from March 15 to 22, 2024. The series, titled To the Last, follows a British deserter from the French Foreign Legion who escapes a brutal situation after 20 years. A reality from his mercenary service, he is forced to fall back into danger with new recruits.
According to media reports DeadlineThe series portrays all the violence behind the “emotional stories and scars carried by the recruits” of the Legion sent to the front. This fighting force of the French army is known, among other things, for recruiting men with difficult pasts to give them a second chance and reintegrate into society.
The project spans six one-hour episodes and marks Eli Snyder’s first steps behind the camera for major production. So far, the director’s son – who has appeared in some of his father’s films – has directed two short films, Interlude and Aves. Casting and shooting date are not yet known.
