Fediverse | Threads begin testing connections to other networks

Threads now allow users to share posts on fediverse – your account and posts can be accessed from other social networks, such as Mastodon

A Objective announced a trial version of Threads integration with fediverse — a federation of decentralized social networks. This means that people can share posts made on the app on other connected platforms, such as Mastodon.

The fediverse was already part of Meta’s plans since the launch of Threads, with the goal of creating a decentralized network that didn’t rely solely on one server to store all the information. If a person has an account on Mastodon, he can use the platform to find, for example, the profile and publications of someone who only has an account on the Meta microblog.

The person who inaugurated the new era was Meta’s CEO himself Marco Zuckerbergwho celebrated the first post on the fediverse:

The feature is still in Beta phase, so it has some limitations. The head of InstagramAdam Mosseri commented that it is not yet possible to see replies to posts and new followers from other platforms, but the like count takes into account the interactions of all apps.

Who can use Fediverse?

The initial phase of Threads integration is only available in Germany, the United States and Japan. The user must be at least 18 years old and have a public account on the network to participate in the process: eligible accounts can activate the function in the “Sharing” no fedeverse option, within the account settings.

The novelty of the Meta social network helps to put into practice some concepts of federated or decentralized internet, normally associated with it Web 3.0, which would represent a new era in the world wide web. To do this, the tool uses the Activity Pubprotocol developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) with the aim of creating a universe of integrated platforms.
