Dragon Ball Super goes on hiatus following the death of Akira Toriyama

Master Akira Toriyama, creator of Dragon Ball, continues to receive tributes in Japan almost a month after his death. This time, condolences came from the manga team he subscribed to monthly.

Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103 was released this Wednesday (20th) and announced that the next edition will only be released on May 20th. Therefore there will be no manga in April.

The message was provided alongside text that exalts the legacy and work of the legendary author, responsible for creating the concept of shonen (action anime with a young male protagonist) that we know today:

“Akira Toriyama, author of several series published in Jump magazine, has died. The entire V-Jump editorial team is deeply saddened by the sudden news of his death. I would like to express my gratitude to him for his great successes and pray that his soul may rest in peace.”the note said.

The mangaka (Japanese cartoonist) died on March 1st, at the age of 68. According to one statement published on the franchise website, Toriyama died from a subdural hematoma, when blood builds up between the brain and skull. His funeral was reserved for his family.

Akira Toriyama leaves behind his wife, Yoshimi Kato, and two children, Sasuke, 35, and Kikka Toriyama, 32.

The information comes from Omelette.

One of the best RPGs of all time and also one of the best Super Nintendo games.

Who will be Toriyama’s successor?

This is a widely debated issue in the East. Because the legacy left by the master is gigantic and the legion of fans continues to thirst for new stories about their favorite heroes.

As we have already explained here, the manga Dragon Ball Super It had already been drawn many years ago by someone else: fellow artist Toyotaro. And he has to continue with the story, even without sensei’s help.

Technically, Toyotaro is considered a “natural successor” to Akira. The author himself has stated countless times how much he trusts him and how much he likes his work.

Despite this, the mangaka should not inherit the entire empire. It will just be the designer. The expectation is that the direction and supervision of everything will be with the firstborn Sasuke.

His younger sister, Kikka Toriyama, is a designer like her father and has illustrated children’s art books and some Dragon Ball-related works.

Business, though, really needs to go to Sasuke Toriyama. May he carry the legacy of Goku and company to its pinnacle.
